Menara International Airport in Morocco

Considered to be one of the most beautiful airports in the world, Menara Airport is also the busiest one in Morocco.
It was used by the Americans as transport aviation base during the World War II.
The reconstruction started in 2000. It was aimed to meet the needs of an increasing travelers flow. One of the most popular facilities of the terminal started to operate in 2008. Since then, it’s been admired because of a unique combination of modern architecture with traditional, Muslim elements.
The building constitutes a block made of hexagonal, glass panels. The glass is decorated with typical, Muslim ornaments. Depending on the part of a day, the light getting inside goes from a different angle and change the color.
Inside the terminal, there are typical, Arabic elements too – the armchairs and couches in the waiting rooms are covered with materials typical of this region. Interestingly, the airport is powered by 72 photovoltaic cells located at the airport’s rooftop.
